A recent study published in Molecular Psychiatry demonstrated that autism-associated Dyrk1a truncations inhibit neural dendritic and spine growth and interfere with cortical migration during development. This work was performed by Dr. QIU Zilong’s Lab.

Regulation of Neurite Initiation and Dendrite Morphogenesis by the Phospholipid PI(3,4)P2 (2017/1/22)
Using cultured rat hippocampal neurons and a combination of live imaging and pharmacological treatments, YU Xiang's lab showed that one or two large actin aggregates formed underneath the membrane of newborn neurons and served as the start sites of neurite initiation.

Perceptual Asymmetry for Dark and Bright Afterimages is Paralleled by Neuronal Response Differences in Subcortical ON and OFF Channels (2017/1/16)
Researchers from Dr. WANG Wei’s lab at ION took advantage of the known differences between the perception of dark and bright stimuli to test whether such asymmetries also exist for bright and dark afterimages, and then probe the underlying neuronal mechanisms generating afterimage perception.
Causal Roles of Macaque Middle Temporal Area (MT) in Global Heading Perception (2017/1/6)
A recent study published in Cerebral Cortex proved that the motion direction signals in macaque middle temporal area are causally involved in heading perception based on visual optic flow cue. This work was performed by researchers in Dr. Gu’s lab at the Institute of Neuroscience, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
ER-located Chaperone Proteins Facilitate Tetrameric Assembly of K+ Channels (2017/1/6)
Researchers from Dr. CAI Shiqing's lab at the Institute of Neuroscience, State Key Laboratory of Neuroscience, Center for Excellence in BrainScience and Intelligence Technology, CAS, demonstrate the critical role of ER-located co-chaperone proteins in regulating potassium channel subunit stabilization and tetrameric assembly.
2016 ION Annual Meeting (2016/12/30)
The 2016 ION Annual Meeting was held at the Campus Lecture Hall from December 25th to 27th, 2016. During the opening remark of the meeting, Prof. Mu-Ming Poo gave a talk entitled “Institute of Neuroscience at the Crossroad”. He introduced the progress of the ION faculty recruitment, 9.4T fMRI setup, CAS Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligence Technology (CEBSIT) Shao Xing Campus for Science and Technology and the establishment review of the CEBSIT.
Dr. Jiulin Du gave an invited talk at the 4th Conference on Imaging Structure and Function in the Zebrafish Brain in Germany (2016/12/6)
During Dec 01 - 05, 2016, Dr. Jiulin Du was invited to attend the 4th Conference on Imaging Structure and Function in the Zebrafish Brain held by Max-Planck Institute of Neurobiology in Germany, and gave a talk entitled “Left habenula mediates light-preference behavior in zebrafish via a asymmetrical visual pathway”.
Network Communication Predicts Perceptual Variability in Visual Illusion (2016/11/24)
A recent study published in Cerebral Cortex demonstrated that dynamic network communication in human brain visual cortex predicts perceptual variability of Pinna illusion. This work was performed by researchers in Dr. WANGZheng’s lab, in close collaboration with Dr. GU Yong and Dr. WANG Wei.
Dr. DU Jiulin was awarded the 11th Shanghai Peony Award for Research in Natural Sciences (2016/10/14)
On Oct 12th, 2016, Dr. DU Jiulin (Institute of Neuroscience, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, CAS) was awarded the 11th Shanghai Peony Award for his research on the studies of neural circuit mechanisms underlying visuomotor transformation and adaptive behavior generation, and molecular mechanisms underlying brain vascular development.
Dynamic Changes of Human Connectomics for Inherent Functional Flexibility (2016/9/30)
Researchers from the Laboratory of Brain Imaging,revealed dynamic changesof brain connectomics for inherent functional flexibility, in which dissociablechanges of frontal and parietal cortices occurred across the human life span, using a Shannon entropy-based method. This work was published online inthe Journal of Neuroscience on Sept. 28.
Autophagy Induction Promotes Axon Regeneration after Spinal Cord Injury (2016/9/18)
Researchers from Dr. LUO Zhenge's lab demonstrate a role of autophagy in regulating microtubule dynamics and axon regeneration. They found that autophagy induction promoted neurite outgrowth, attenuated the inhibitory effects of nonpermissive substrate myelin, and decreased the formation of retraction bulbs following axonal injury in cultured cortical neurons.
Lateral Amygdala to Auditory Cortex Projections Play a Key Role in Fear Conditioning and Exhibit Selective Synaptic Remodeling after Fear Learning (2016/9/6)
A recent paper published in Nature Neuroscience uncovered a pathway from the lateral amygdala to the auditory cortexin mice, which plays a key role in auditory fear memory, and undergoes pathway-specific synaptic plasticity after fear conditioning.
